what does it mean to miss someone? how do we know if we understand language. sometimes it’s rather easy- you just point to an object and say it’s name. “book”, “camera”, “apple”, those things are easy to understand, but what about feelings and abstract thoughts and ideas? how do we point to love and know what it is? maybe every word means something different to every person. i guess the writers of our dictionaries basically have the ability to control our minds. one day, in the not so distant future, we might manufacture robots to do the tedious task of defining our everyday lives. they might have an uprising and….. You Are Teal Green

You are a one of a kind, original person. There’s no one even close to being like you.Expressive and creative, you have a knack for making the impossible possible.

While you are a bit offbeat, you don’t scare people away with your quirks.

Your warm personality nicely counteracts and strange habits you may have.

What Color Green Are You?

how could i forget!

so then, what is a cousin? i think a cousin is a half sibling in a sense: if your brother or sister has the same parents as you, and your aunt or uncle has the same parents as your mom or dad then your cousin has half of one of his or her parents, who have the same parents as one of your parents, who you are half of..?

but does it matter? the point is that we love them.

i am writing this post specifically for my cousin Mariah (though i love them all!). She is off to Africa and i am in despair that i shall not see her before i leave. this means a year. a year of not seeing my cousin. a year of not seeing my family. a year.

my cousin Mariah. you know psalm 1? “blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked.” that is Mariah. when i think of that verse, i think of her.

Mariah, have a wonderful time in Africa. i’ll see you some day soon…

Mariah

Have you ever had a parent or grandparent tell you a story from their childhood? Sometimes I feel like it’s not *really* real. I mean, obviously it’s real, but it’s not as real as right now. Then I think that one day I’ll be sharing stories of “when I was a kid” (well, sometimes I do, but I get a lot of strange looks). Maybe it’s because people can’t know the relationships you had with every person in your story, so it seems a little unreal. They can’t really see how you perceived the others… hmm… I don’t know.

I don’t know if I mentioned it, but I’m leaving for Brazil on August 23. I’ll be gone for a year! This truly excites me.
